5 Senses + 1
This 50 second video is a fake commercial. Idea came out in the morning prior to my filmmaking class (ELC Shanghai filmmaking class) during a brainstorming with my students.
By Franc Peret
Main idea was to used all Human senses in a short story: Hearing, Smell, Touch, Sight, Taste and the sixth one: female intuition.
I wrote down the different sentences on a white board, we set up the light in the class room, I picked up 2 students willing to play a role and we shot this in 3 hours.
We finished the class with a raw editing session.
I was quit surprised that we completed this simple piece without trouble in such a short time, without too much brainstorming and preparation.
I think the story works as is and could be improved in term of set design or lighting in some shots.
I used the Panasonic AF103 to shoot this with a sigma (Nikon mount) 24-70mm f2.8 and a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 to capture the wide shot. Portrait close up were shot with a old lens: Pantacon 50mmf1.8 with adapter.
We only used low consumption bulb light, in softbox to light up the scene at 5500K.
Don’t forget that I wrote, set up, directed and shot this piece in less than 4 hours.
My student did really well for their first experience, and this always amazed me how “normal” people can be so good actors without training.
